Overview of Endomicroneurosurgery

This subspeciality of Neurosurgery consist of three subdivision namely Endoscopic & Microscopic Brain Surgery + Endoscopic & Microscopic Spine Surgery + Endovascular Neurosurgery.

1. Endoscopic Brain surgery: Prototype of this Surgery is Endoscopic third ventriculostomy for obstructed Hydrocephalus and intraventricular Endoscopy for cystic lesion of ventricle later on its use has been extended for Pituitary adenoma and other Brain Tumor Excision.

2. Endoscopic & Microscopic Spine surgery: Prototype of this surgery is Lumbar Endoportal Microdissectomy and later on its use has been extended to other minimally invasive procedures of spine like Fixation and spinal tumor excision.

3. Endovascular Neurosurgery / Neurointerventional Surgery: This subdivision of Endomicroneurosurgery involves treatment of Intracranial aneurysm in the form of coiling, AVM, Dural AVF, Brain Tumor Embolization, Intracranial and extracranial vascular Stenting in Neuro Cath Lab. Endovascular Neurosurgery is Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery because it requires very small incision and exposure. It is also a remote neurosurgery because materials are manipulated through microcatheter and wire outside the body far from the target. Endovascular treatment of cerebrovascular disease includes occlusion of the Lesions like Aneurysm, Arteriovenous malformation (AVM), Arteriovenous fistula (AVF), Preoperative embolization of head and neck tumor, opening of the lesion like atherosclerotic stenosis, acute thrombogenic occlusion, angioplasty for vasospasm both chemical and mechanical, delivery of anticancer drug, stem cell to the target etc.
